Frequently Asked Questions
How much does it cost to rent a dumpster?
Dumpster rental pricing is determined by the dumpster size, rental period, included disposal weight, and the type of material being disposed of. At MyDumpster.com, we believe in being extremely transparent with our Tampa Bay dumpster rental pricing. We clearly show the rental period and disposal weight included with each dumpster size, along with any additional charges that may apply, so you don’t have to search for hidden add-on fees. Our current dumpster rental prices are: 10-yard dumpster: $325, includes 3 days and 1 ton 15-yard dumpster: $385, includes 5 days and 1.5 tons 20-yard dumpster: $450, includes 7 days and 2 tons 30-yard dumpster: $650, includes 7 days and 3 tons Rental extensions, while not guaranteed, are usually available for $25 per day. Additional disposal weight is billed at $99 per ton over the included weight allowance. Heavy materials have different loading and disposal requirements. Please see our Heavy Materials section for complete details. If you have questions about pricing or are unsure which dumpster is right for your project, give MyDumpster.com a call at 813-723-0065 and we’ll be happy to help.
What size dumpster do I need?
Choosing the right dumpster size for your Tampa Bay project depends on the type of project, the amount of debris, and the materials being disposed of. Our 10-yard dumpster holds approximately 3–4 pickup truck loads of debris and is a great choice for small cleanouts, minor remodeling projects, yard debris, and other projects with limited amounts of debris. It is also the only dumpster size approved for known heavy materials such as concrete, dirt, brick, block, or asphalt. Heavy materials have specific loading and disposal requirements. Please see our Heavy Materials section for complete details. Our 15-yard dumpster holds approximately 5–6 pickup truck loads of debris. It is our most popular choice for most homeowners and is commonly used for garage cleanouts, moving projects, medium-sized remodeling jobs, roofing projects, and general household cleanup. Our 20-yard dumpster holds approximately 7–9 pickup truck loads of debris and is often selected for larger home cleanouts, multi-room remodeling projects, estate cleanouts, and projects that generate larger volumes of debris. Our 30-yard dumpster holds approximately 10–12 pickup truck loads of debris and is best suited for major renovations, construction projects, large estate cleanouts, and other projects that generate significant amounts of debris. If you’re unsure which dumpster size is right for your project, give MyDumpster.com a call and we’ll be happy to help.
How far in advance should I reserve a dumpster?
We recommend reserving your dumpster as soon as you know your project dates. While MyDumpster.com often has same-day or next-day dumpster rental availability, scheduling in advance gives you the best opportunity to reserve the dumpster size you need for your preferred delivery date. During periods of high demand, including increased construction and remodeling activity, storm preparation, storm cleanup, hurricanes, or large community cleanup events, dumpster availability may become limited. If you have a specific delivery date in mind, reserving early helps ensure the right dumpster is available when you need it.
How fast can I get a dumpster delivered?
MyDumpster.com offers same-day dumpster delivery in most cases when requested before 1 PM, and in many cases, same-day delivery can still be accommodated after 1 PM. Getting a dumpster to you quickly is only part of the solution. Knowing exactly when it will arrive can be just as important. Once our driver is on the way, we’ll send you a text message with a link that lets you follow the truck’s progress on a live map. As the truck makes its way to you, the map continuously updates and gives you an exact, down-to-the-minute arrival time, so you can plan the rest of your day with confidence. We call it Track Your Dumpster™. If you need a dumpster today, give us a call and see how we can help.
Can I request a specific delivery or pickup time?
Yes. MyDumpster.com will do our best to accommodate requested delivery and pickup times whenever possible. Our scheduling system uses AI-assisted routing to optimize each day’s route and continuously updates that route in real time based on traffic, landfill delays, completed stops and other changing conditions. This helps reduce unnecessary mileage, fuel usage and operating costs, allowing us to pass those savings on to our customers and keep our prices competitive and transparent without hidden add-on fees. That’s also where Track Your Dumpster™ comes in. When our driver is on the way to your location for a delivery, pickup, or swap-out, you’ll receive a tracking link that allows you to follow the truck’s progress on a live map. Track Your Dumpster™ updates in real time as conditions change and provides a continuously updated arrival time, so you’ll know exactly when to expect your driver. If your project requires a specific delivery or pickup time, MyDumpster.com can usually accommodate that request when scheduling allows. Because reserving a specific time requires us to adjust our optimized route around your job, an additional $50 scheduling fee applies. If you simply need the dumpster on site before your project begins, scheduling delivery for the day before is another great option and can eliminate the need for a specific delivery time.
Do I need a permit for a dumpster rental?
In most cases, a permit is not required when a dumpster is placed entirely on private property, such as your driveway or another approved location on your property. If the dumpster needs to be placed on a public street, right-of-way, sidewalk area, or other public property, a permit or other approval may be required. Requirements vary depending on the city, county, municipality, or agency responsible for that location. If you live in a community with an HOA, condominium association, or other property restrictions, you should also check whether your community has its own rules regarding dumpster placement. If you’re unsure whether your planned location requires a permit or approval, simply give MyDumpster.com a call before booking. We’ll try to direct you to the appropriate department so you can confirm any requirements that may apply.
Do I need to be home when my dumpster is delivered or picked up?
While we highly recommend being present when your dumpster is delivered, the short answer is no, it is not required. Being there allows you to personally confirm exactly where you want the dumpster placed and gives our driver the opportunity to discuss another location with you if something prevents us from safely placing it where originally requested. If you are not present, our driver will follow the placement instructions you provided whenever they are clearly stated and it is safe and practical to do so. Sometimes an unexpected condition, such as a vehicle blocking access, a locked gate, an obstruction, or another issue at the property, can prevent the dumpster from being placed exactly where requested. These situations may be easy for you to resolve if you’re there, but our driver may not be able to resolve them without you. Respecting our customers’ time is important enough to us that we made it part of our motto: “Respecting Your Time, Your Property, and Your Budget!” Track Your Dumpster™ is one of the ways we put that promise into practice. When our driver is on the way for a delivery, pickup, or swap-out, you’ll receive a text message containing a tracking link that allows you to follow the truck’s progress on a live map and gives you an exact arrival time that continuously updates as conditions change. This makes it much easier to be there when the truck arrives without spending your day waiting around wondering when we’ll show up. If you won’t be present for delivery, please provide clear placement instructions when booking. When booking online, you can also upload a photo showing exactly where you would like the dumpster placed. If the requested location cannot be used and we are unable to reach you in a timely fashion, our driver may need to choose an alternative location or may be unable to complete the delivery. If you later determine that an alternative location does not work for your project and the dumpster needs to be moved, an additional relocation fee may apply. You do not need to be present for pickup or a swap-out either, but the dumpster must be accessible and ready for our driver. Please make sure vehicles, gates, equipment, or other obstacles do not prevent safe access. If a delivery, pickup, or swap-out cannot be safely completed because of blocked access or another condition at the property, an unsuccessful service trip (dry run) fee may apply. If you have any questions about delivery, pickup, swap-outs, or placement, simply give MyDumpster.com a call. We’ll be happy to help.
Will the dumpster damage my driveway?
At MyDumpster.com, protecting your property is important enough that we made it part of our motto: “Respecting Your Time, Your Property, and Your Budget!” That’s why we use RolliSkates, semi-rigid polyurethane driveway protection devices specifically designed for use with roll-off dumpsters, at no additional charge. The polyurethane material helps reduce friction between the dumpster’s steel wheels and the driveway during delivery and pickup, while the shape and wider footprint of the RolliSkates help distribute the dumpster’s weight over a larger surface area. Together, these features help reduce concentrated pressure and the risk of scratches, gouges and other surface damage. While no driveway protection system can completely eliminate the risk of damage, RolliSkates provide an added layer of protection between the dumpster and your driveway. Because the condition, construction and underlying support of every driveway is different, our goal is to take reasonable precautions and help minimize the risk wherever possible. If you have questions or concerns about where your dumpster should be placed, simply give MyDumpster.com a call. We’ll be happy to discuss the placement options with you.
What can I put in a rental dumpster?
Most household, construction, remodeling, roofing, yard debris, and general cleanup materials can be placed in a MyDumpster.com dumpster.
Common examples include furniture, household items, boxes, wood and lumber, drywall, cabinets, countertops, doors, carpet, vinyl and laminate flooring, fencing, roofing shingles, yard debris, and general construction and renovation debris.
Some materials require special disposal handling even though we may be able to accept them. Items such as mattresses, certain appliances and electronics can affect which disposal facility we are able to use. Some of these items may be marked as prohibited on our dumpsters because they must be arranged with MyDumpster.com in advance.
If an undisclosed item causes a load to be rejected at a disposal facility, additional charges may apply. The load may have to be reloaded and transported to another facility, resulting in additional disposal costs, mileage and driver time, as well as disrupting the day’s scheduled route.
Heavy materials such as concrete, dirt, brick, block, asphalt, roofing tile, pavers, sand and sod require special handling and must be disclosed when booking. Please see our Heavy Materials section for complete loading and disposal requirements.
If you’re unsure whether a particular item or material can be placed in your dumpster, give MyDumpster.com a call before putting it in the container. We’ll be happy to let you know whether we can accept it and whether any special arrangements are required.
Why is it important to tell MyDumpster.com what I’m putting in the dumpster?
Knowing what you plan to put in your dumpster helps MyDumpster.com make sure you receive the right dumpster for your project and that your materials can be handled and disposed of properly.
Different materials can have very different disposal requirements. Heavy materials such as concrete, dirt, brick, block, asphalt, roofing tile, pavers, sand and sod require special loading and disposal procedures. Other items, including tires, mattresses, certain appliances and electronics, may require advance approval or special disposal arrangements.
Letting us know what you’re disposing of when you book gives us the opportunity to explain any special requirements or additional disposal charges that may apply before your dumpster is delivered. It also helps us make sure your load is taken to the appropriate disposal facility for the materials you’re disposing of.
Most disposal facilities inspect incoming loads when they are emptied. This means an unapproved or prohibited item may still be discovered even if it is buried underneath other debris. If that happens, the disposal facility could reject the load or assess additional disposal and handling charges.
Any additional charges assessed by the disposal facility because of materials or items in your load will be passed on to the customer. Additional charges from MyDumpster.commay also apply for the time, labor, mileage, fuel, and other expenses incurred in resolving the situation.
We don’t need an item-by-item list. Simply give us a good description of your project and the types of materials you expect to dispose of.
If you’re unsure about an item or something changes during your project, simply give MyDumpster.com a call before putting it in the dumpster. We’ll be happy to help.
What items cannot be placed in a rental dumpster?
Certain materials cannot be placed in a MyDumpster.com dumpster because they are hazardous, unsafe to transport, or are not accepted through our normal disposal channels.
Prohibited materials include hazardous chemicals, gasoline and other fuels, motor oil and other automotive fluids, wet paint and solvents, pesticides, batteries, propane tanks and other pressurized cylinders, explosives, ammunition, asbestos, radioactive materials, medical or biohazardous waste, appliances or equipment containing refrigerant, sealed drums and barrels, and other flammable, toxic or hazardous materials.
Certain items, including mattresses, some appliances, electronics and standard tires, are considered prohibited unless disclosed when booking and approved by MyDumpster.com in advance. These items require special handling and may be subject to additional fees based on the item and disposal requirements. Fees for those items not disclosed and approved in advance may be substantially higher due to the additional handling and disposal costs involved. Please contact us in advance so we can confirm acceptance and any applicable charges.
If you’re unsure whether an item can be placed in your dumpster, simply give MyDumpster.com a call. We’ll be happy to let you know whether we can accept it and whether any special arrangements are required.
Can I put tires in a rental dumpster?
Yes. MyDumpster.com accepts standard automobile tires in our dumpsters with advance approval. Tires must be disclosed when booking. Approved tires are charged at $25 per loose tire or $75 per tire on a rim.
Tires that were not disclosed and approved in advance will be charged at $100 per loose tire or $150 per tire on a rim.
Oversized, commercial, tractor and specialty tires require separate approval and may not be accepted.
If you have tires to dispose of along with your other debris, simply let us know when booking so we can make the appropriate disposal arrangements.
How full can I fill the dumpster?
Each MyDumpster.com dumpster is marked with a “Do Not Fill Above This Line” indicator.
A simple way to think about it is to imagine filling the dumpster with water. Once the water reaches the top rail, it cannot go any higher without spilling over the sides. Debris should be loaded the same way. Nothing should extend above the top rail, even if it is only piled higher in the middle.
When possible, load larger and heavier items first and distribute the weight evenly throughout the dumpster. Breaking down bulky items such as furniture, cabinets and boxes can also help reduce empty space and make better use of the dumpster’s capacity.
Proper loading is important not only for safety, but also to ensure the dumpster can be properly secured, tarped and legally transported on public roads. If material extends above the top rail or the load cannot be safely secured for transportation, material may need to be removed or rearranged before the dumpster can be picked up.
If our driver arrives and the dumpster cannot be safely and legally transported because it is overfilled or improperly loaded, a $150 unsuccessful service trip (dry run) fee may apply.
If you still have questions about loading your dumpster, simply give MyDumpster.com a call. We’ll be happy to help.
Can I move the dumpster after it has been delivered?
No.
Moving or repositioning a MyDumpster.com dumpster after delivery is strictly prohibited unless approved in writing in advance by MyDumpster.com. Our dumpsters may only be moved, relocated, picked up, emptied, or transported by MyDumpster.com.
This includes attempting to move the dumpster with personal equipment, hiring another company to move it, or having another dumpster company pick up, empty, dump and return, or otherwise handle a MyDumpster.comdumpster.
Once a dumpster has been delivered, especially after materials have been loaded into it, attempting to move it can be unsafe and may damage the customer’s property or the dumpster itself. Unauthorized moving or handling can also cause damage that may not be immediately visible but could affect the dumpster’s structural integrity and its ability to be safely transported. Moving the dumpster can also leave it in a position or location that our truck cannot safely access or retrieve. Customers may be responsible for damage or other costs resulting from unauthorized moving, handling, or transportation.
If you need the dumpster moved after delivery, simply give MyDumpster.com a call. We’ll discuss the situation with you and, when possible, arrange to relocate the dumpster safely.
How long can I keep a dumpster?
At MyDumpster.com, our software automatically sends both an email and text reminder the morning before your scheduled pickup. If you need additional time, give MyDumpster.com a call as soon as possible to request a rental extension.
If your reminder is received on a day our office is closed and you need to extend your rental, please contact our office as early as possible the next business day. We can usually accommodate the extension as long as our driver is not already en route for the scheduled pickup.Rental extensions, while not guaranteed, are usually available for $25 per day. Requesting an extension as soon as possible helps us avoid scheduling conflicts and unnecessary trip charges.
What if I underestimated how much I have and need another dumpster?
If you fill your dumpster before your project is complete, simply give MyDumpster.com a call.
Depending on availability and scheduling, we can usually swap out your full dumpster for an empty one, in most cases the same day or next day, so you can keep your project moving.
A swap-out may be completed by replacing your full dumpster with another empty dumpster, or it may be handled as a dump and return, where we pick up your full dumpster, empty it at the appropriate disposal facility, and return the same dumpster to your property. The method we use depends on dumpster availability, scheduling, and what works best for that day’s route.
If a different dumpster size makes more sense for what’s left of your project, we can help you choose the right size for the next load and get another dumpster to you as quickly as possible.
Swap-outs and dump-and-returns can also be scheduled in advance. If you know your project is likely to require more than one load, letting us know ahead of time can help us plan around your project.
